Minoring in Spanish
Choosing to minor in Spanish was an easy decision for me. I've been studying the language since sixth grade, and it's always been a goal of mine to become fluent. This minor wasn't just about taking classes; it was about connecting with my family and their heritage.

Studying Spanish for ten years wasn't easy, especially at the college level. It required a lot of focus and hard work, especially balancing it with my major and other commitments. But I knew it was important to me, so I made it a priority.

Learning Spanish wasn't just about speaking another language; it also taught me valuable life skills. It helped me communicate better and understand different cultures, especially my own family's culture. My grandma even started speaking to me only in Spanish to help me practice, which meant a lot to me.

Now, I can confidently say I'm fluent in Spanish, and it's a skill that will help me in many aspects of my life. It's not just a notation on my resume; it's a part of who I am and a connection to my roots.

The Spanish minor has helped to prepare me for a career in any field, including business, journalism, law, and more. It wasn't just about language; it was about cultural understanding and global communication. Through courses like Intensive Communication Skills and Spanish Grammar and Composition, I developed a strong foundation in language proficiency. With opportunities to explore Spanish at the upper levels and abroad, I gained a deeper appreciation for Hispanic culture.

Beyond the classroom, the significance of my Spanish minor extended to personal relationships. Being able to communicate fluently in Spanish allowed me to connect more deeply with my family, especially with my dad, whose first language is Spanish. It opened up new conversations and strengthened our bond in meaningful ways.
Looking ahead, I'm excited about the doors my Spanish minor will open for me. Whether it's traveling to Spanish-speaking countries, pursuing international career opportunities or simply talking with my grandma on the phone, I know that my proficiency in Spanish will continue to be a valuable asset. It's not just a language I've learned; it's a skill that will carry me throughout my life.
