Verbal Communication

My journey in the International Scholars Program included studying abroad in Madrid, where I immersed myself in the Spanish language and culture. While there, I frequently engaged in conversations with locals and fellow students, in and outside of class, navigating everyday interactions and academic discussions entirely in Spanish.

I had to communicate effectively in Spanish, bridging cultural divides through dialogue. Whether ordering food at a local restaurant or discussing Spanish cinema in my classes, I relied on my verbal communication skills to convey ideas with precision and understandability.

Utilizing my minor in Spanish, I approached each conversation with enthusiasm and adaptability. I actively listened, asked follow-up questions and embraced every opportunity to expand my vocabulary, fluency and pronunciation. Additionally, I observed cultural nuances and adjusted my communication style like my accent to best fit the Spanish environment.

As a result of my experience in Madrid and ongoing study of Spanish, I developed a heightened proficiency in verbal communication in the language. Whether talking with native Madrileños or collaborating with peers for class assignments, I've cultivated a deep understanding of the language and its connection to Spanish culture.
